I'm delighted to welcome you to this third edition of 'Manuscript' the official newsletter of Conway Stewart Pens. The past couple of months have been incredibly hectic - and rewarding - with many compliments and encouragement from pen collectors far and wide.

Flexible nibs!

Over the past few months we have been working with one of the world's leading nib manufacturers to see if we could fine-tune their nibs to get that flexibility in a modern nib - and I'm delighted to say that we have done it!

The nibs are all in 18ct gold and are made by the same people who previously produced all the Conway Stewart and Onoto nibs - so the credentials are excellent! Each one bears our own Flag logo and they have been made to fit the majority of the Conway Stewart range (everything except the Coronet and Dandy which have a slightly smaller 'fit').

The initial batch is in Medium and they will be followed shortly by Fine and Broad nibs. So now you can order your favourite Conway Stewart pen with a flexible 18ct gold Flag nib.

Conway Stewart Wellington

Here's a new pen that's been very well received by CS collectors. The Wellington has a lovely shape and feel to it and when we discovered that we had just enough caps and barrels to make up an edition of 50 in this striking blue colour, it just had to be reserved for the Waterloo anniversary.

In case you don't know, here is the background to this special edition...

200 years ago, on 18 June 1815, the coalition armies of Great Britain, Prussia, Netherlands and Hanover, under the leadership of the Duke of Wellington, faced Napoleon's French army at Waterloo, some 15 km south of Brussels, in a battle that was to end Napoleon's rule as Emperor and determine the shape of Europe for the next 100 years.

Napoleon's wish to become Emperor of Europe had very quickly started to become a reality after his return to France from exile in Elba. Within days, he had been able to raise an army of over 300,000 men and was intent on driving the British into the North Sea and over-run the Prussians before turning his attention to Austria and Russia.  

His ambition however, came to an end at Waterloo where the British forces, ably supported by the Prussians under the command of Field Marshall Blucher, proved to be far too resiliant for the overstretched French army. The coalition forces drove the French back in disarray and eventually arrived in Paris where they restored King Louis XVIII to the throne. Napoleon surrendered and was exiled to the remote island of St Helena where he died in 1821. 

Meteor

One of the joys we have discovered in sifting through all the stock of components we acquired from the Conway Stewart Administrators is finding a stunning colour combination that just shouts to be put together. And that was the case with the Meteor. The combination of red/orange/black acrylic with brilliant sterling silver fittings was an instant 'WOW!

Without hesitation, we agreed to make up as many as we could. Sadly, there were only 14, so it's a real collector's item. As of today, only 2 remain, so if you'd like to add one to your collection, now's the time to do it.

A pen to die for!

When Conway Stewart was asked to produce a pen that would be one of the star 'characters' in a full-length spy movie, there was only one choice for the style of pen... the magnificent Winston!

Approximately twenty black and gold Kingsman pens were specially made for the film, as each secret agent carries one. We sold the 10 we had available within a few hours of promoting it, so 'Congratulations' if you were one of the fortunate buyers!
